Midway -- A review of the movie

In honor of Veteran's Day my husband and I went to see the movie Midway, an American war film based on the Attack of Pearl Harbor and the subsequent Battle of Midway during WW2. I've since been shocked to find less than great ratings for this movie by the "professional" critics, so I thought I'd write my own.

I will begin by pointing out that polls of average movie goers consistently give this movie an A rating (on a scale from A+ - F).  I, personally, rate this movie an "A" as well.  In my opinion the cast,  Ed Skrein, Patrick Wilson, Luke Evans, Aaron Eckhart, Nick Jonas, Mandy Moore, Dennis Quaid, Tadanobu Asano, and Woody Harrelson  did a great job of telling the story of how Admiral Chester Nimitz , Intelligence officer Edwin T. Layton and a team of cryptologists  correctly predict and act upon the actions of the Japanese resulting in a US victory at the Battle of Midway.

I won't get into too much of the story line here.  If you are a history buff, you know how it plays out.   If you do not know about this battle, you will enjoy seeing it unfold on the big screen.   You'll leave the theatre educated about a bit of history you might not have ever heard about, and despite the incredible human and material losses depicted in the film, you will also feel uplifted and proud of our military forces.

I will say this though, Midway is one of the most costly independent films ever created.  You won't need to be an artist to appreciate the astounding level of special effects used to recreate each battle scene.  And you might agree that it is truly a work of art on its own, and I highly recommend you go see it for yourself.

Midway has outperformed all projections at the box office despite Rotten Tomatoes attempts to bring it down.   Perhaps they misjudged the effects of American pride and attendance at the re-telling of the stories of true American heroes?

Don't miss it!  Go see Midway today!
